Counselling

Does Doncare offer children's counselling?

Yes, Doncare has qualified counsellors who specialise in supporting children. Please call us on 9856 1500 and ask to speak to our Counselling Coordinator for more information.

How qualified are Doncare's counsellors?

Counsellors at Doncare are volunteers and have to at least be doing a fourth year, or have completed a fourth year university level in counselling, psychology, family therapy or social work. Many are more highly qualified and choose to volunteer their services at Doncare.

How do I get a counsellor?

Simply telephone our office on 9856 1500 or email doncare@doncare.org.au (and provide your telephone number). The Counselling Co-ordinator will speak to you about your needs and assign you to the most appropriate counsellor.

How long is the wait for an appointment?

Sometimes you may have to wait a few weeks. However, on some occasions, there will be a counsellor available straight away. Call us on 9856 1500 and ask to speak to the Counselling Co-ordinator to discuss appointment availability.

How many counselling sessions will I have?

Counselling may involve a few sessions or many sessions. This is something for you and your counsellor to decide once you have both had the opportunity to clarify the issues you would like to address. Call us on 9856 1500 and ask to speak to our Counselling Co-ordinator to find out more.

How much does counselling cost?

Doncare's Counselling Program charges minimal fees, based on a client's level of income. Fees can be reduced or waived for clients experiencing financial difficulty. Please call us on 9856 1500 and ask to speak to our Counselling Co-ordinator if you are unable to pay for counselling sessions.

Are counselling sessions confidential?

Definitely. Doncare's Counselling Program is a confidential service that includes appropriate professional consultation between the counsellors and experienced Counselling Supervisors. However, Doncare does have ethical responsibilities and serves the right to report serious risk situations to appropriate authorities. Please call us on 9856 1500 and ask to speak to our Counselling Co-ordinator if you have any concerns about the confidentially of counselling at Doncare.
