Doncare is very fortunate to have a terrific group of volunteers who provide transport and support group activities. Therefore, group participants can enjoy themselves from the time of leaving home to when they are driven back home again, allowing them to relax and chat for the maximum amount of time.
After your referral is received from My Aged Care, one of our friendly and supportive Social Support Program team members will arrange to meet with you at home to get to know you, to explore your goals and interests to determine which of our small group activities best meet your needs. We will also discuss client contributions including for clients who are in receipt of a Home Care Package or who reside in a Residential Aged Care Home.
Doncare currently offers the following social groups:
Lunch Groups: a range of hotels, RSLs and cafes provide a different destination for each outing. Favourites are revisited and we are always on the lookout for new spots within Manningham and surrounding suburbs. Lunch groups currently run weekly on Fridays and every second Tuesday and Wednesday.
Carramar Friendship Group: this popular group meets weekly at a local church hall. Activities can include guest speakers or entertainers, quizzes and group crosswords or craft (weekly on Tuesdays).
Chinese Walking Group: Our Chinese Walking Group has been running since 1997 when Doncare recognised the need to develop a program to cater for the needs of the increasing number of Chinese families settling in the Manningham area. Talk while you walk: a light walking group for Cantonese and Mandarin speaking seniors followed by morning tea or lunch (weekly on Wednesdays in school terms).
Light Walking Group: this group offers fresh air and exercise in many of the beautiful parks around Manningham. No one races: the group walk at a leisurely pace while enjoying a chat, followed by morning tea at a nearby café (fortnightly on Thursdays).
Movie Group: a full day of fun. Commencing with morning tea, onto the movie and then lunch and a chance to discuss the movie (usually monthly on a Friday).
Special Outings: for those activities that don’t fit within our regular group activities. From time to time, we may offer an additional outing to somewhere a bit different. These visits are offered to members who share an interest in the place to be visited. Some of the outings offered in the past have included flower farms, fruit orchards, art exhibitions and musical entertainment.
