Volunteer in ACVVS

Volunteering as a Volunteer Visitor can be a rewarding experience.

Our Volunteer Visitors are passionate about addressing loneliness in older community members. Becoming an ACVVS Volunteer Visitor can be a rewarding experience that enriches the life of an older person experiencing social isolation. If you are interested in becoming a Volunteer, please email or telephone the friendly Doncare Social Support Team for a chat.

By becoming friends with an older person, you can make a positive difference in their life, as well as your own. ACVVS volunteers report to very much enjoy their visits.

The ideal ACVVS volunteer will:

  • Be able to commit to building and sustaining a friendship with an older isolated person over an extended period
  • Be able to visit their matched recipient at least once per fortnight (weekly is ideal) for at least 12 months
  • Have genuine empathy, understanding and enjoy the company of older people
  • Effective communication and listening skills
  • Be reliable and flexible.

Volunteer Visitors are police checked and provided with ongoing training and support.

How do we support our volunteers?

Our volunteers are the backbone of Doncare and of this program. We value our volunteers and provide induction training, continuous support and opportunities for further training.
