Social Support for Seniors in Manningham

Social Support for Seniors

Social Support for Seniors

Doncare’s Social Support for Seniors Program provides social and recreational outings for seniors living in their own homes and who are, or could be, at risk of becoming isolated socially.

Since 1995, the Doncare Social Support for Seniors program has provided Commonwealth Government subsidised and volunteer supported social support groups for senior Manningham residents. Our program strives to improve social connectedness, promote a better quality of life and to optimise psychological and emotional wellbeing.

We offer a variety of popular small group activities including facilitated group sessions, walking clubs, lunch gatherings and movie sessions. Options to determine the most suitable group for the participant are explored with one of our friendly team members during an individual meeting.

  • All activities take place in community venues

  • Groups have regular members and are kept to a size that enables participants to get to know each other to form friendships

  • Costs are kept to a minimum and the lunch venues selected have a reasonably priced or seniors menu available

  • Door to door transport is provided by volunteers and staff. A contribution of $6.00* is requested to assist with reimbursement of volunteer travel costs

  • Costs vary from week to week: you will be informed of likely costs prior to going out.

*Please speak with the Social Support Program Team Leader (tel: 9856 1500) if you are experiencing financial difficulty.

Our social support groups are subsidised by the Australian Government via the Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP). Referrals are received via My Aged Care. Visit myagedcare.gov.au or telephone 1800 200 422. for more information or to request an assessment and referral.

In addition to social support groups, Doncare is an auspice for the Commonwealth Government funded Aged Care Volunteer Visitors Scheme (ACVVS). ACVVS connects socially isolated and lonely older individuals, who reside in their home or in residential aged care homes, with volunteers to build meaningful friendships.
