Position Statement

Enhance quality of life and foster social connection by providing small-group transport and social support to socially isolated older people and individuals under 65 living with disability, chronic health conditions or mental health challenges.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide door-to-door transport for participants. Volunteers must not enter participants' homes.
  • Assist participants into and out of vehicles using minimal physical support.
  • Safely store mobility aids in the vehicle.
  • Ensure passenger comfort and safety.
  • Drive safely and considerately.
  • Provide an enjoyable outing.
  • Collect and submit participant contributions to staff.
  • Keep accurate travel records (reimbursed at 88c/km).
  • Complete reimbursement forms promptly.
  • Report incidents to the Social Support Program team.
  • Maintain clear boundaries with participants.
  • Seek support from the Social Support Program team when required.
  • Exercise duty of care at all times.
  • Notify the team if you stop volunteering.
  • Respect participant confidentiality and privacy.
  • Comply with Doncare policies and Code of Conduct.
  • Follow Public Health Orders (e.g. influenza vaccination).
  • Do not accept gifts except approved token items.

Key Selection Criteria:

Applicants must be over 18 years of age.

  • Valid Victorian Driver's Licence (for drivers)
  • Respect and empathy for older people
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and in a team
  • Integrity, respect and confidentiality
  • Flexibility

 If using a personal vehicle: 

  • Comprehensive insurance
  • Valid licence and good driving history
  • Pay any fines incurred
  • Advise team of any health issues affecting driving

Conditions of Engagement

  • Six-month probation period
  • Satisfactory Criminal History Check
  • Working with Children Check
  • Provide referees
  • Complete volunteer training
  • Comply with OH&S requirements
  • Zero blood alcohol level during service
  • Follow organisational policies
