A Taste of Our Activities

Doncare is very fortunate to have a terrific group of volunteers who provide transport and support group activities. Therefore, group participants can enjoy themselves from the time of leaving home to when they are driven back home again, allowing them to relax and chat for the maximum amount of time.

A variety of hotels, RSLs and cafés provide a different destination for each outing. We revisit favourites while also exploring new spots across Manningham and surrounding suburbs. When: Weekly on Fridays, and every second Tuesday and Wednesday.
A welcoming, social group held at a local church hall. Sessions may include guest speakers, entertainers, quizzes, crosswords or craft activities. When: Weekly on Tuesdays.
Established in 1997, this group supports Cantonese and Mandarin-speaking seniors to connect through gentle walking and conversation. Each session is followed by morning tea or lunch. When: Weekly on Wednesdays (school terms).
Enjoy fresh air and gentle exercise in Manningham’s beautiful parks. Walk at a relaxed pace, connect with others and finish with a café visit. When: Fortnightly on Thursdays.
A full day experience including morning tea, a movie screening and lunch, with time to share and reflect on the film together. When: Usually monthly on a Friday.

Occasional outings for something a little different. These experiences are tailored to shared interests and may include visits to flower farms, orchards, exhibitions or live entertainment.

Powered by volunteers, enriching the lives of local seniors

Through special outings like visits to local exhibitions, participants can experience new environments, connect with others and enjoy enriching, shared moments.

Walking to stay connected

Creating meaningful experiences, made possible by our volunteers

Thanks to a grant from the Tobin Brothers Foundation, clients from our Chinese Walking Group experienced a lovely day exploring the beautiful Yarra Valley. The group were treated to a tour of the Yarra Valley Chocolaterie and the Big Bouquet Gerbera and Alpaca Farm in Healesville before enjoying a buffet lunch. Doncare is extremely grateful to the wonderful men and women who volunteer in our Social Support program. Without you, seniors in the Manningham community wouldn't have the opportunity to get social and enjoy these fabulous recreational activities.

Make a Meaningful Difference

Volunteers are central to the delivery of Doncare’s Social Support Program, helping older people stay connected, active and engaged in their community. In this role, you may pick up participants from their homes, accompany them to activities, support inclusive conversation and connection, and ensure they return home safely. This door-to-door support is essential for many participants — most are over 80 and face barriers to getting out and socialising independently. Your time and presence help make these meaningful social experiences possible.
