The Aged Care Volunteer Visitors Scheme (ACVVS) is a free national program funded by the Australian Government that aims to reduce social isolation and loneliness among older people living in their own homes and in Residential Aged Care Homes. Research shows that loneliness increases as we get older, with people aged over 80 being more than twice as likely to experience loneliness than those in younger age groups. Loneliness not only impacts mental health but also has significant effects on physical health. The good news is, that loneliness and social isolation can be relieved with meaningful social connection.
